The Lake District National Park is a place that is at the heart of English countryside. It contains 19 major lakes, has the tallest mountain in England (Scafell Pike at 978m), the deepest lake in Wastwater and the longest lake in Windermere. The dramatic scenery of the Lake District is credited with inspiring writers and poets such as Wordsworth, Coleridge and Keats.
