Samantha Meekin

Meet Samantha Meekin, hiker, runner, biker, wild swimmer and happy camper!

Tell us a bit about yourself and how you like to get outside?

I’m a little bit of an everyday adventurer and I love hiking, running, biking, wild swimming and
camping in my campervan or tent. I work full time, so I like to squeeze in micro adventures after
work and at weekends. The outdoors brings me lots of joy and happiness, it’s a place where I feel
happy, relaxed and I am always the best version of myself.

My adventures come in all different shapes and sizes from big mountain days in the Lake District
to small urban adventures in Greater Manchester, but all my adventures are always about the
‘smiles not the miles’.

I am passionate that women should have a supportive and inclusive space in the outdoors, so I
volunteer for Love Her Wild which is a UK based nonprofit women’s adventure community and I
lead the local Greater Manchester Community group.
I have recently started working towards my Mountain Leader qualification and I am really excited
to see where this journey leads.

What’s your favourite route or place to go and why?

Sam Meekin’s Favourite Hiking Route – Pike O Blisco, Crinkle Crags, Bowfell, Mickleden

My favourite place to go is Great Langdale, a picturesque valley in the heart of the Lake District
National Park. I have spent a lot of time here hiking on many solo and family adventures and it’s a
place I keep going back to, I love the incredible landscape here. There are many walks in Great
Langdale but my favourite is a circular 10-mile walk starting from the Old Dungeon Ghyll to Pike of
Blisco, Crinkle Crags, Bowfell and descend via Mickleden.

You can find this route on the OS Map OL6

What’s your fave bit of kit available on the OS Shop?

It has to be the OS Lake District Thermal Bottle – The Lake District is my favourite place to adventure and every adventure should be fuelled by
vimto and this thermal bottle keeps your drink hot or cold!
